Quick Guide to Securing Your Wireless Network

It is clear that you need a secure wireless network, but you aren't sure how to get it. It's  Sophos España

actually quite simple. You can create a secure network within minutes by following the steps below.

1. You can log in to the router's admin panel by entering the router address into your browser's URL bar. Most routers use an IP address of 192.168.0.1. If these address are not the defaults, you may need to consult the documentation or website of the router manufacturer.

2. Enter your username and password to access the router. It should remain the default password if you have not changed it. This will usually look something like username: admin, password=blank. Routerpasswords.com will provide you with the password and username for your router.

3. Once you have accessed your admin panel, search for the tab "Wireless". The Wireless tab should contain several sub-tabs. One of these tabs is "Wireless Security". To access the security setup, click here

4. Next, you'll need to choose the Security Mode. It should default be disabled. You will see several options, including WPA, WEP and WPA2. WPA is the most secure. WEP is the weakest of all these options. WPA2 is the most secure, while WPA2 is less secure. Enter a passphrase and click on generate if you select WEP. Note the generated key. Create a shared key (passphrase) if you select WPA2 or WPA2 and then enter it into the box. The router will then restart after you have saved your settings.
